COMMON PRINTER ISSUES
The following are the most commonly reported printer issues we receive at LaserSmith. These repairs are generally inexpensive and quick to resolve.
LIGHT/FADED PRINT
Light print on a page occurs when not enough toner makes it to the paper. This could be because of a dirty laser, empty toner, misaligned toner/paper or worn fuser/transfer roller.
MAINTENANCE REQUIRED
Printer Requests for maintenance are very common on many makes and models of printers. Typically they pop up after 100-200k of pages have been printed. We have Maintenance Kits on hand for most printers and copiers.
PAPER JAM/CRINKLED PAPER
Paper Jams are the result of paper not moving freely through the printer. They are caused by an obstruction or a worn roller or surface.
WON'T PULL PAPER
Worn rollers prevent paper from drawing out of the paper tray. Sometimes this will also flash a “PAPER JAM”. But, if there is no paper actually jammed, it means that the roller could not grip the paper and pull it into the printer.
PRINTER ERROR
Printer errors can range from benign-“load paper” to fatal – “system board failure”. Even in the case of a system board failure, inexpensive options can be found here. We have an extensive stock of refurbished boards.
DIRTY/DUSTY PRINTER
Dirt in your printer will build up into small piles and cause various types of streaking issues on your prints. LaserSmith can clean and vacuum your printer. Paper dust can be cleaned with a typical vacuum, but toner dust requires a HEPA filter.
REPETITIVE MARKS
Repeating marks down a page are quite common. The distance between the marks will tell the circumference of the roller causing the issue. This is a surprisingly easy diagnosis.
PAPER MISMATCH
Printers and computers sometimes have conflicting paper sizes and paper types. When this happens, it can yield unpredictable results. Our techs will ensure that the driver on the computer and the printer setup are consistent.
